Waterbury Celebrates Arbor Day
In partnership with the City of Des Moines, WNA hosted the official celebration for the city on April 27. At the Council meeting on Wednesday, April 25, Mayor Frank Cownie presented the official proclamation to WNA representative CJ Stephens.

Sixty-four neighborhood parents and children attended the celebration, in addition to the third grade class from the Downtown School. Two Bur oaks, donated by Trees Forever, were planted at the Trail on Waterbury Circle. City arborist, Skip Moore, explained to those present the proper way to plant and care for the trees. Also, attending were City Council person, Christine Hensley, Trees Forever representative Brad Riphagen and Richard Brown from Des Moines Parks and Rec.

Dahl's donated apples and WNF provided water. Trees Forever provided oak seedlings that were distributed by Mayor Cownie and Councilwoman Hensley. IDNR Urban Forester Mark Vitosh provided teachers autographed copies of the book, Ashley's Forest, which he wrote with his daughter.
