Social Events

WNA Fall Picnic

Beautiful weather, good food and fellowship were found at the Waterbury Neighborhood Picnic/Chili Cook-Off on September 13 at Merrill Middle School.

Approximately 80-90 neighbors attended, including City Councilwoman Chris Hensley, three City Council candidates and a representative from the DMPD. The Kinsers provided music, creating excellent ambience, a great backdrop for neighborhood interaction. Multiple varieties of chili were contributed by WNA Board members (see recipes for crowd favorites below), with condiments provided by the Association and desserts provided by members. Des Moines Police Officer Scarlet was available during the event and took the mic to remind neighbors of proper safety practices - including knowing your neighbors and observing good safety practices like locking your doors.

Waterbury participated in National Night Out activities on August 4. National Night Out is observed in communities throughout Des Moines and the United States and is designed to raise crime-prevention awareness in our neighborhoods. Waterbury was visited by our local police and neighborhood inspection officers. Neighbors enjoyed cookies and lemonade as well as pleasant weather in the Waterbury Gardens.
